The archipelago of Kornati is unique in its beauty. There you can see the greatness and strength of nature. You can't find any other place with so many cliffs, capes, small and big island, coves and bays. Kornati is always the same but so different in day and year changes.
The archipelago of Kornati goes along the shore, and has around 300 km2 and 148 islands of 62 km2 of surface.
Kornati National Park has been protecting since 1980 from man the most beautifull part of Croatian Adriatic and preserving it for the mankind. The islands and the sea are protected as well as all living nature, animals and plants in the sea and in the land.
There is no water on Kornati, and islands are predominantly stoney with rare vegetation. NP Kornati is famous destination for sea and admirers, and sport fishermen. There are eight marked paths going to observation spots from where you can see entire Kornaty or some of its most beautifull parts. These paths are known as Planinarski put "Kornati".
Kornati are covered with dense evergreen vegetation of dark oak or cesmina. Farmers and fishermen and pirates burnt forests, but mostly the islands were naked. The islands were inhabited in prehistoric times. Kornati are dramatic on autumn and winter south wind, when clouds announce stormy weather and archipelago becomes dark. But in spring and summer sea blue colour of the sea and whiteness of the islands are the main attraction of this pear of Adriatic. |
